Starting from Erath, La. on 18 April 1934, Nicholas Broussard, 76 years old, leaving for Washington, D.C. After 1700 miles and 75 days he arrived in Washington. He took two white roosters, the emblem of the Democratic Party, and a case of JAX Beer to present to President Franklin Delano Roosevelt. He had one rooster for the President and one for John Nance “Cactus Jack” Garner Vice President. He arrived in Washington D.C. on 3 July 1934. See Nicholas
